When people think of oysters, they often think of New Orleans and of far-flung luxury resorts. So it may come as a surprise to some people that the world’s longest running Oyster Festival is held in Galway, Ireland.

It has become one of the highlights in Ireland’s social calendar, starting with the Blas Na Mara (the Taste of the Sea). This party, a celebration of all things seafood culminates in the National Oyster Opening Championship, where competitors must open a minimum of 18 oysters in under 2 minutes. The World Championship follows the next day and following a themed Mardi Gras parade, things are finished off in fine style at the Meyrick Hotel, the venue that started it all back in 1954.

If you manage to shuck more than 38 oysters in one minute (the current record!), you’ll certainly want to tell the folks back home about it, and what better way than with a prepaid GO-SIM international SIM card?

With call rates from just $0.59 per minute and data rates of only $0.49 per MB, there are no hidden charges, no connection fees and no service costs. We think you’ll agree, it’s a pearl of a deal.
