One of the highlights of the foodie calendar is Alba’s annual white truffle festival. Named “the diamond of the kitchen”, this incredibly rare delicacy can fetch as much as €2000 per pound and is celebrated during a month of markets and other events.

Things kick off on the first Sunday of October with the Palio degli Asini, a traditional donkey race, followed by a medieval procession. Throughout the festival, a huge market offers a range of truffle-based delights – truffle oil, truffle butter, truffle-infused sauces – as well as a range of other local delicacies from the region. Toward the end of the festival are more medieval treats – Il Baccanale del Tartufo (the Truffle Bacchanal) and Il Borgo si Rievoca (The Boroughs Remember).

A prepaid GO-SIM international  SIM card is a must for anyone travelling to this sumptuous festival. With calling rates of just $0.69 per minute to the US and data rates of only $0.49 per MB, you’ll want to tell your friends and family all about it, and update your Facebook page with photos.

There are no hidden charges or service costs, and no connection fees, so you’ll have more money to spend on absurdly expensive nuggets of fungus.
